For Parents
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is your website written to students?
I know that most students aren’t actively shopping for tutors! But I would very much encourage parents to walk their kids through this website before you meet with me. I’ve also been told that reading the website has helped parents to get a sense of my teaching style and the way I interact with students.
2. What ages do you work with?
I teach middle and high school students, primarily, but am happy to work with younger students as well.
3. How much do you charge?
Project-based writing coaching — $70/hour
College application essay help — $90/hour or 5 weeks for $400
4. How do you teach online? Does it work?
It’s always nice to meet in person — but I’ve found that I can be just as effective working through email and Skype, and this allows me to meet students all over the world!
Online sessions work just like in-person sessions. We use Google Docs, which allows for live editing. I’ve found that my students really enjoy our online sessions because they are engaging with technology while learning.
For online sessions you will need a webcam, a strong Internet connection and a Skype account.
5. How will I know how my child is doing?
I send notes after each session, letting you know what we worked on and what I observed about your child’s progress.
6. What schools have your students been accepted to?
Colleges: NYU, Cornell, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, USC Film School, UCLA, University of Washington, Penn State, Cal Poly, University of Oregon, Puget Sound University, University of Hawaii, Occidental College and many other colleges and universities.
High Schools: Drew School, San Francisco
